How to measure an oval lampshade:
Top (width x length): The top dimension has both a width and a length.  Both width and length measurements are measured at the widest part of the lamp shade rings.
Bottom (width x length): The two bottom dimensions are measured the same way as the top. 
Slant Height: The height of the shade is measured along the slant. Slant height on an oval is measured at the mid-points of the top and bottom rings on the LONG SIDE of the oval.
